Austela,

There’s nothing wrong with strong ankles.

I’m glad to hear you found the sub-consul, even if he talked your ears off. I always find myself quite disconcerted when I don’t know where a politician has gotten to. They have an annoying habit of popping up where everyone least wants them, or (rather worse in my opinion) popping up where a lot of people you rather wouldn’t like them can be easily persuaded into thinking they do.

I’m not bitter, just jaded.

You speak of the Rhythians being confined to their home planet, but I have actually found a case where that’s not true. I thought I recalled something of the sort the other day, but I’ve only just been able to find the records of it. It seems that a couple of years ago, one of the Rhythian nobles ventured away from his homeworld and served aboard the Varnan Protector fleet for the remainder of his stay. There’s no mention of his movements beyond that, and the fact that he quite distiguished himself both in battle and peacetime. No mention of his name, either, though the fact that he’s a he is certain. If Rythian medicine is much as our own, it’s possible that that fact could have changed, of course, but something tells me the Rhythians aren’t as flexible in that particular outlook.

I’ve no idea of this talk of parentage contracts, but they must have something equivalent in place to sustain such a strong idea of noble bloodlines. Family must be just as important, if not more so, for them as it is for us.

Speaking of which, festival week is in full swing here. I made sure to clear up your parents’ grave markers again as I made my rounds.

Preparing to receive my own delegation,
Crow
